What is a teaching credential program

A teaching credential is a certification which indicates that someone is allowed to teach a particular subject or grade level. There are numerous types of teaching credentials, ranging from those designed for school nurses to special education credentials. Using a credentialing system for teachers ensures that all students have access to qualified teachers who are familiar with the subject and teaching techniques.

The path to obtaining a teaching credential can be quite lengthy, depending on the credential being sought. Different parts of the world have different teacher credentialing requirements. Someone who is interested in becoming a teacher should contact their local department of education to find out what the requirements are. Fieldwork takes place in late afternoon during the summer or during a typical school day in fall and spring. Additionally, the required full-time student teaching semester will be conducted during district contract hours, Monday through Friday.

All Attallah College graduate program applicants who submit all their materials by the program's priority deadline are automatically considered for tuition fellowships and scholarships. Chapman offers combined master's degree and teaching credential programs in elementary, secondary, music, and special education, many of which can be completed in as few as 15 months.

Beginning with the academic year application cycle, the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing CTC is allowing applicants to teacher education graduate programs to submit exam scores, evidence of sufficient coursework, or a mixture of coursework and exam scores to fulfill their Basic Skills and Subject Matter Competency Requirements.

Not to worry! Many hiring schools overseas will be on the lookout for teachers who hold certification from a US state or Canadian province, as well as certified teachers from countries like the UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

If you hold a US teaching license, this means you have received an official document, stamped or signed by your state, province or home country, that recognizes you as a qualified teacher. This one almost goes without saying but your teaching license must not have been suspended or revoked. We still advise you to register and keep a close eye on any upcoming teaching jobs abroad.
