Preliminary discussions include an onsite liaison from the district to work with families to create connections with teachers and other resources to get and keep these students on track academically. Jamboree and SHRA are committed to being a good neighbor for the long-term. The new supportive housing community is a short walking distance to public transportation as well as local retail and business centers, and adjacent to the future site of a Kaiser Permanente medical center.

Vista Nueva is truly a community effort when it comes to the project financing. To both acquire, renovate, and operate the future community long-term, Jamboree is bringing together various public sources — including project-based vouchers, state dollars, and loans from SHRA. During the initial phase to convert this hotel into supportive housing, Jamboree and SHRA will provide immediate housing with extensive supportive services for residents via funds secured through Homekey Round 2 funding , a continuing statewide effort to sustain and rapidly expand housing for those experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.

Vista Nueva will create homes, not a hotel or shelter. Unlike homeless shelters, residents in permanent supportive housing do not have to leave their apartment every day and return at night nor do they have to move out after a brief stay. Individuals must qualify for this specific housing and are referred to the property from participating agencies. Once residents sign an apartment lease, they may remain in their apartment long-term or, as long as they follow the community rules.

There will be no onsite intake center for those experiencing homelessness. The goal is long-term housing stability to keep these residents active, stable, and thriving in their local neighborhood.
